Designing formal dresses, on the Gold Coast, is just as important as designing wedding dresses for Australian brides.
It is the one day a young person, often graduating from thirteen years of formal education, can express themselves freely in what they choose to wear, to their year twelve formal. It is often the bridge, from finishing one part of their life and the beginning of another, while also entering adulthood. Cameryn is one of these young adults I had the pleasure of working with, in creating her dream formal dress.
Cameryn was finally able to celebrate her special day after her formal had been postponed a few months earlier, due to COVID-19. Cameryn’s inspirations, with guidance from myself regarding design, style, and fabric selection, created two distinctly different looks.
First, the fully beaded lace dress, sheer from the upper thighs down, with a dramatic high-thigh side split, showcasing her lovely, long legs.
Second, the extremely full overskirt incorporates concealed side pockets. The side pockets are deep enough to hold a few small necessities Cameryn will need on the night, including her mobile phone, a must in today’s society.
Even though COVID-19 turned the world upside down, it also gave Helena Couture Designs and other wedding industry professionals the opportunity to collaborate and create some extra special moments for Cameryn, and to showcase their creative talent. Instead of a bridal shoot, this was a formal shoot, that could easily be the perfect inspiration for a wedding too.
Thank you to the talented team of industry bridal professionals from the Gold Coast and Brisbane for making Cameryn’s night even more special than she or her family could have anticipated.

From the beginning my daughter Cameryn knew exactly what she wanted her formal dress to look like. We saw a few dress makers and were not confident we would get the result she wanted. Then we found Helena!
After our first appointment with Helena, we got in the car and both looked at each other and smiled, she was exactly who we were looking for. At every appointment, you couldn’t help but admire all the beautiful Wedding dresses made and designed by Helena. Amazing!
Helena is so down to earth and worked well with Cameryn to get the perfect outcome. From choosing the perfect fabrics to adding additional things to her dress that we never would have thought of. I absolutely loved that she made Cameryn feel very special at every appointment. Her energy and excitement was that infectious, we always left feeling the same energy and excitement.
My daughter now has her dream dress and thanks to Helena, it is definitely ‘Red Carpet’ worthy! It is everything she wanted and more!
